View Full Version : Creating plastic materials (like boring3d)

Any tips for creating the type of materials seen on www.boring3d.com ?Is that strictly a quality of VRay, or is it something you could closely achieve with certain material setups in max 4 or 5. Thanks!

I think most of the materials could be created straight out of max 4 or 5. Probably 5 would be better though.

I usually use SSS for a lot of my materials but not all. I am not 100% sure weather or not max 5's light tracer does SSS. I haven't really tried since I use Vray almost exclusively. But I used to set up similar materials using fall off maps and self illumination so I don't think it would be impossible to achieve the same look even in max 4 or even earlier. It would just be a little harder to setup. But it would probably render faster once you had it setup right :)
