I'm trying to figure out how to reproduce this XSI tutorial in Maya:

http://www.edharriss.com/tutorials/tutorial_xsi_texture_blending/xsi_nyc_tutorial_1_texture_blending.htm

but for some reason I can't get it to work.

I have uploaded an image here so you know what I am talking about:
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/9065/cgtalkei0.jpg

I created a simple sphere and two uv sets for it. I created a blinn shader with a blend colors node connected to the color attribute of the material. There is a simple green texture connected to the Color 1 attribute of the blend colors node and a simple orange texture to the Color 2 attribute. A circular ramp is connected to the "Blender" attribute of the blend colors node.

In the Relationship Editor I connected the textures to their corresponding UV Sets.

When I render the sphere it looks like the rendering on the image I uploaded above. The problem is that the entire upper part of the sphere is of some strange pale color, it should be the same green texture color as directly below the visible texture seam. Of course there should not be a visible texture seam at all.

What am I doing wrong?
