View Full Version : Alignment solutions?
rocarpen 04-24-2003, 08:03 PM Hey folks,
Cinema 4D newbie here, currently tearing the program apart trying to come to grips with every possible tool and function. I'd appreciate it if anyone could answer the following:
3D Studio Max has some pretty awesome alignment tools, giving users a wide variety of targets (object or world) and options. Cinema 4D, on the other hand, seems limited to the following:
Function > Center
Function > Arrange
So, can anyone here recommend a robust alignment solution or plug-in? I've searched every C4D plug-in pack I could find, and so far havn't found anything on par with 3DSMax's solution.
I'm digging C4D big time, but this and the wonky Edge Extrude are ticking me off a bit.

AFAIK there is no good alignment plugin for Cinema. Rui's plugin (Align & Distribute) has the same problem that plagues Cinema generally in this regard--it works on the object axis instead of the bounding box.

Right. Tools like AxisCenter (which is admittedly pretty cool, and does it's job well) abound, but nothing seems to be available for bounding box alignments.
Again, it's not a huge deal. Just a surprising oversight, IMHO.

Thanks very much for you suggestions!
The first place I searched was the Resources > Plugins thread you mention, and so I've already perused most of the sites you list above. Again, there doesn't seem to be anything out there but tools for affecting the axis of objects.
Again, thanks for the suggestions though!

FWIW, I've suggested to Maxon that they should at least address the snapping tools so they work with the bounding box. Presumably if they take that up it wouldn't be much more work to add alignment functions. Maybe you could go to the suggestion form on Maxon's site and add your voice. They do pay attention to those forms btw.

damn...sorry.
i didn't realise you mean't bounding box...never seen anything like that for c4d..
arrh well...i'd second AdamT on that and definitely suggest it to maxon on the website...as requests are done in order of priority...priority being most requested.
(a good example of this was better boole..):buttrock:
deffinentely request what you see missing. Maxon is a company and if they dont think there is a demand it probibly will not get done.

I'm sure you saw this, but: function:center works to align the bounding boxes of objects, (but they have to be in a group in the OM).
What does seem to be missing is any way to distribute bounding boxes.
