Hi guys,

just wondering about an effect i saw in a wakeboarding video on youtube.

here's the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vz4p9wRjHQA

what im interested in, is the parts where they still frame the wakeboarder in mid-air, and then pan around him.

I mean what the hell.. This confuses me, its a bit big an area to do it matrix style, with butt loads of cameras isn't it?

thanks

Since the quality of the video is not too clear I'd say they did one of 2 things to achieve the bullet-time:

1) They modeled a 3d environment complete with wakeborder then using precise edits spliced it into the shot.

2) They shot a wakeborder against blue-screen in the pose (with him crocuching on the floor of course) using the bullet-time or camera on tracks...then composited the environemnt...then used precise editing to splice back into the shot.

Interesting post , here, and interesting theme (matrix style effects)
I think m|3 (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=5827) is right on the first solution. I don't know how you can shoot a wakeboarder in THIS pose on blue-screen, except with wires that you'll have to remove later on. (that's the technic used for matrix bullet times)

It is with no doubt a 3d projection of the scene. As the whole background is almost static, there is no probleme to shoot it and project it on a 360° plane in a 3d package. It seems to me like a SPECIAL 3d soft built up to project and recreate a 360° , character included. (cause it looks like some kind of automatic thing, not like a hand made one)

To me, this is 3d.

thanks both of you for the input :)

im thinking the transition between the real footage and the CGI would be when the camera zooms in onto the boarder. maybe the motion blur fills + low quality fills imperfection of the transition :)

anyway. good effect, i like it.

Thanks again,

Pat
