Hey guys I really dont know what key words to search for to find the solution so Im just gonna post it here cause I need a reply in like the next 2 hrs cause i am rushing like mad. always love ur help so here goes.

Well is there a way where I could do like a book in 3d with bent pages. then export the cam and import that into AE to add 2.5D text. that is bent and wrapped. Now using a null I added for lights from maya. I will place lights in AE to add the appropriate text animation and all that where the text is actually floating above these bent planes.

How do I have AE know how the planes are bent and have the shadows affected according? is there a way? it doesnt need to be totally accurate but can a depth map or 3d channel or something provide such information for AE to work from it?

We are using AE CS3 and Maya 8.0 over here. Thanks guys

From my understanding you want text to warp with the contours of a rendered page?

With my fairly limited knowledge of AFX I don't think this is possible to achieve with the default plugins.

Although certain effects may give the illusion of warps in 3D space, objects in AFX are never truly are. In 2.5d all objects are rendered on flat plane's that can be distributed within a 3D space.

There is a plug-in that may be able to solve your problem, but it might be tricky to set-up:

You could try and experiment with the bezier warp plug-in and fake it, or use displacement maps?
