View Full Version : Book recommendation
kevin3d 04-24-2003, 04:41 PM Can anyone recommend a good reference book for Cinema 4D R8?
I understand that you need to pay extra to get a hardcopy manual with the educational version, & Creative Engine only offers a book for R7. I don't know how much the documentation for R8 is going to cost, but I'd like options.
However, I'd rather pay a LITTLE extra $ for best documentation, so if the MAXON stuff is best I'll gop with that.

AFAIK, there aren't any books specific to R8 yet. I know there's at least one in the works, but I don't think any are actually published yet.
Do you mean Creation Engine? In that case they (and all other US & Can dealers) sell the student version with manuals. The student version differs by region in cost and what exactly it includes, so it's best to check with your local MAXON office to get all the details for your region.

Rick,
Thanks for info. Yes, Creative Engine is what I'm thinking about. I'd probably prefer the manuals from Maxon.

only ytwo books I know of being worked on neither are available quite yet, least not in english for sure. Ardnt and Adam Watkin's are the two authors, Don't know much about what ardnt's will cover unfortunnately, both of them published books for Xl 7 that were quite good, in Adam's book there will be some great coverage of Character animation and rigging with extras from NAAM and Donovan kieth regarding rigging and making CA related expressions like Dynamic parents and such.

I think you'd be best off with the manuals. You can get supplemental books later if you want, but they don't cover *everything* like the manuals do (except for Mocca, which is lightly covered). If for some reason the ed. version doesn't come with books it should at least have them in .pdf--or you can download them.
