Hi All,

Is there any way, using 5.5 production bundle, to add motion blur to an image?

I'd like to add blur the way the Reelsmart motion blur plugin works.

Am I going to have to get my boss to pay for this?

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

Well, there could be a way
but right now, i have no footage to try it myself.
So itīs very theoretical:

basically you first need an effect to blend multiple images (especially the following images of the actual displayed image), which get more and more transparent, (depending on the distance/speed to the actual image) and then blur those multiple images
So itīs a combination of the echo-effect and then one of the blur-effects

Take your layer with the object to motion blur
Put it in an under-composition (layer-->undercomposition, shift+ctrl+c)
add the echo-effect to that composition
select the comp and make another under-composition
add motion-blur-effect to that composition
play with the echo-settings (you may need a lot of "steps"
play with the motionblur-settings

Hi Webster,

Thanks for that. I thought that I needed to do something like you suggested, theoretically, but I'm not that savvy with creating effects with afftereffects.

I only normally use it for comping and editing my 3d renders and have only used the obvious effects.;)

I'll let you know how I get on.

Cheers

Not sure if you can do this in afterfx but in shake you use a similar method that reelsmart uses (just not automated). Track parts of a person or on a moving object and use that to drive the motion blur. Blue sky used this method for most of their motion blur in Ice Age.

Maybe someone else could translate that into afterfxese for you.

Not sure exactly what you are asking for.

Effects > Blur > Directional Blur.

If you only want part of your image to be blurred, then duplicate the layer. On the top layer, make a mask around your subject to be blurred, and feather the mask. Then, motion [directional] blur it.

Hope that helped.
