What would be the best way to create an iridescence effect?? Forexample the effect that the reflective side of a CD has.
Any help would be mucho appreiciated. :D

Iridescence can be simulated by varying specular color according to angle relative to the camera; try using a falloff map for specular color.

What you see on a CD is actually referred to as diffraction.

For Max, you could look into cebas' ProOpticSuite, which has a spectral shader to simulate this...

Or if you want the free, not so good version, you can check out this tutorial to simulate it. Not as good looking, but it's free. You might be able to fiddle with it to get it looking the way you need it for whatever project you're working on.

Johnny_Scott: I figured there might be away using falloff. I'm just to lazy to try it out.

drewbie: I was looking for that cd tut. But now comparing it to Pyrocluster, it really looks shite. Think I'll give it a test run.
I'll check out both techniques.
Thanks guys
