View Full Version : Rigging: Charrigger problem
Hexodam 04-24-2003, 12:37 PM Hi I'v been trying out this wonderful plugin by Michael Comet and so far so good, except one thing.
I have two characters that I'm trying to put together in one scene, no problem there, except one is waaay too big, so I have to scale it down (or is there a better way to do it?)
The problem is that when I pick the position controler for the whole rig and scale it down everything scales correctly except the head, so in the end I have this tiny body and huge head.
How should I go about to do this?

I had the same problem and the same results. I just went ahead and scaled the head afterwards. I haven't had any problems animating so far...

I found out how... think it works well
1. Unhide everything
2. Select everything
3. Group it
4. Scale it
5. Ungroup it
6. Hide what was hidden

Good going. Do you need to reset Xform on the mesh after that?
Would extra scaling cause problems with deformers in the Skin mod?

I'd guess that the CharRigger head either:
a) is not actually linked to the rest of the rig, but is instead constrained by position/rotation/both.
b) has its scale inheritances checked off.
In the case of the latter, simply turn back on scale inheritance in the heirarchy panel. If it's the former, you have a few different options if you want the head to scale with the body. One would be to wire the scale of the root node to the scale of the head, for instance.
In either case you can also safely scale the head separately from the rest of the heirarchy (at least in theory - there may be some skinning issues as a result of any application of scaling).

Here's another question. Have any of you found a way to reposition an elbow or a shoulder within the mesh once the script has been run? I find the rig is much to complex to simply use Edit Bones mode.

I just rigged my character with this script. Other than the mentioned problem, has anyone run into any other ones? I really liked the way it generated the bones and controls and everything.
Also if anyone has any animation that they have done with it, I would like to see it.

Problem with charRigger?
Yeah, I've got one.
Sometimes the forearm bones get all out of whack. I think it has something to do with shoulder-to-wrist not being straight. You know, a kink in the elbow. Not really sure, though. It can be pretty ugly and convoluted.
