Hello friends !

I never painted in AE - so how can I paint on an extra layer ?

I only wanted to create an empty layer on top of an existing layer, so I can paint over like in photoshop.

thx for very little help,
bernhard

Create a solid, set the paint strokes to be 2on transparent".

If one is using Paint, does he not have to have the layer view open?
So in order to view all other layers in the comp while painting,(like in PS) one must have two comp views open.
One for the Layer/Paint, and one to see what is going on..
Unless good ole vector paint is used. Limited in brush/colour options , but works in comp view.

ok, got it, but when I paint, let's say a red point, this red point stays over the entire animation.

What, if I just want to paint frame by frame...
So i would like to make a red point at frame 1, and a green point at frame 2, and a yellow point at frame 3.....

isn't there any option, I can tell AE, hey, I just want to paint on one frame ?

thx for every little help,
bernhard

Make sure to keyframe to enable the animation stopwatch on your Paint properties you wish to animate. To paint frames intermittingly, keyframe the Brush Path on the frame you want to "turn off" and paint off screen; Set that to Held.

To paint a different color on different frames, just keyframe the Brush Stroke's color.

I pretty much always use Constant duration when using Paint, as it gives more flexibility and is cleaner in the timeline (although I do wish you could edit their duration with alt [ and alt ]). Take a look at "Duration/Single Frame" in the Paint Window (seperate window from the timeline).

It's much easier to edit paint strokes in CS3. Still not as easy as it should be, but you can
create a new solid, copy the Brush Paths onto the mask shape, and then link the Brush path to the mask shape via expressions. Now, whenever you adjust the mask shape, it updates the paint strokes.
