View Full Version : Rendering : Radiosity problem
I do allot of interior modeling and am now trying to use radiosity but I'm having trouble with putting an object on the surface of another object like a wall without It going all smudgy at the edges.
I dont' want to have to model around everything that touches a wall or floor etc. I have done this and it becomes very time consuming when working on huge architecturals.
there must be a better way.
can anyone offer any suggestions?
here's an example.
oh and the orange strip is what happens if I dont use lighting overide. can anyone shed some light on that too

i also do large architectural projects, unfortunatly thats the limitations with max or viz radiosity. you have to add edge lines or vertexs where other objects sit. There is no other way around this other than using a better system like final render brazil or vray. Which my studio is thinking of switching to.
We limit the use of radiosity to interiors, small ones at that, anything large becomes time consuming as you have found out.
As for you other problem, the image hasnt attached so i cant be of much help.

I had a hunch you did architectural work Tim. you got any of your work I can take a look at.
what do you mean by edge lines?
or adding vertex points?

if you have a cube sitting on a plane, make sure the surface underneath has an edge sitting around the box. if that makes sense. An easier way would be to create the plane with 3 horizontal and vertical segments, edit mesh and drag so edges match the cube sitting on top. Now when radiosity calculates it should calculate from the nearest set of vertexs, and thus should not be smudged around the box.
I use this principle with most large objects sitting on floors or against walls. in theory you shouldnt need to remove the face underneath.
this is where i work.

That does make sence with the verts.
removing back faces is no fun!
I think I got to used to modeling for the scanline and brazil.
I was just in your site earlier today. I'm always looking for some inspiration. great work
how long you been at it?
you got any cool sites you can point me too?

I started as an airbrush Illustrator then moved into achitecturals and about four years ago moved into 3d modeling.
I now freelance to an achitect who feeds me all the work
we started a company www.visagedesign.com you can see my work here Its not up to date.
Ive now realised Its time to start my own website which I'm working on right now
The computer in the office had a melt down and I lost all my cool links.
thanks for the texture links.
