View Full Version : Network rendering with watch folders (setup question)

I'm using a small network of 3 PCs and a HP MediaVault NAS. I am planning to set up a watched folder (first time) but was wondering how to best proceed. There are two Pentium M tablet PCs and 1 dual core desktop PC. AE is running off the dual core.

Should I put the watched folder:

(a) on the dual core PC that's doing the bulk of the AE work, in a 'shared folder,'

(b) on one of the tablet PCs, in a 'shared folder'

(c) on the NAS

I'm not using gigabit ethernet (the two tablet PCs are 10/100). And this is only a temporary measure - I don't do enough AE work to warrant a dedicated render node.

Thanks for any advice!

Where you put the folder will not matter that much - since you only have a low-bandwidth network, disk speed will always be more than your network can stomach and thus sufficient. I'd simply put it on the device that you know is going to be available permanently and to me that would be the NAS.
