View Full Version : matte painting on irc
Matellis 01-04-2008, 10:19 PM I was just thinking that it would be nice to have a spot on irc for all of us matte painters go and chat it up , share tips and crits. I am usually on the #cgtalk and #cgsociety channel there and I am just wondering if anyone would be interested in it. I can start up a #mattepainting channel on the irc.freenode.net server. But I would be interested in see if anyone else would like to join in before I start hanging out in an empty channel by myself! :D
Cheers

Well you already know im in
Maybe if it got popular and we kept it professional, we would see a few pros drop in and grace the channel with their wisdom.

Hey sounds good guys , we should really figure something out. This could be very nice. And yes keep it professional. One thing we used to do a lot in the # cgsociety channel when enough people were around was set up speed painting sessions and the like. It was very fun and helped my drawing skills a huge amount. Thou we mainly focused on anatomy we could do that kind of thing here were we find a nice landscape and you get 30 mins to try and reproduce it. Then everyone gets in and crits each others work. Tons of fun!
That sounds interesting Matan. I have irc installed but I am sure others would be interested in how to use java for this :D

Theres no better than IRC, u can use it with the real client or a browser client, so it doesnt get better than that, if u want I can set such java irc, ill need a host tho, I cant host on my servers atm.

Hey Ryan,
Matan is going to make up a tutorial. Do you have IRC? if not he is setting it up so you can join through your web browser.

Okay guys. I installed the java client on my art forums so you can now join via browser :) Click http://www.cgpad.org/webchat/ to get to the java applet. Once you loaded the page you have to accept the applet to gain access :)
1. You can change your nickname with typing:
./nick YOURNICK
2. To join the mattepainting channel type:
./join #mattepainting
RED MEANS: IRC command
GREEN MEANS: User input needed
Don't type the "." before the commands or they don't work
Have fun chatting peeps :)
