Is aftereffects capable of displaying the whole filename in the projectbin/timeline panels ?
Its really annoying and work-slowing to see the names cut down..

(this happens with long, versioned filenames, such as:
- John_House_rendered_Sunny_v1_Depth_Final.png
- John_House_rendered_Sunny_v1_Shadow_Final.png
- John_House_rendered_Sunny_v1_Lighting_Final.png )

any ideas, guys ?
thanks

No. Names get truncated after the 31st character. There's no way around this. However, feel free to rename your footages in the project window and timeline as you see fit. Your filenames also seem unnecessarily long and without any deeper meaning. Name them after the shot and take, not the scene name and use abbreviations for the passes. Something like

s001_t001_beauty_rev00.png
s001_t001_shadow_rev00.png

makes much more sense in a production environment.

Huh? What gives you that impression? Otherwise your comment is nonsense - software development takes time and resources and even such seemingly simple things have deeper repercussions. Think of how many places in the program are affected if longer names are implemented... Project Window, Timeline, Footage Windows, Effect Controls, Render Queue and so on...

You're right - i dont really know how hard it would be to code and sort this out. since it is not 'corrected', it must be.

But at the same time i would think that its really a high priority problem, as the production in this industry is(/could be) full of long filenames, and while some of the long words can be shortened of course (version1 > v1), some of them cant.

I apologize if i sounded harsh, i'm not angry or anything like it, just really sad.

This is true. But the mentioned filenames were just examples. :)
But i'm in the situation, where i cant really shorten the filenames.
Thanks for the tip though!
