View Full Version : Maya Paint Fur Attributes tool
ckpepper02 01-03-2008, 05:55 PM I'm having trouble editing my fur attribute. I've gone through the steps to bald some areas of my geometry with the Paint Fur Attributes Tool, but nothing happens.
The Maya Help tells me to:
1. Select the geometry
2. Select Fur > Paint Fur Attributes Tool
3. In the Paint Fur Attributes Tool Settings window, select Baldness from the Fur Attribute drop-down list.
4. In the Tool Settings editor, set the Value to 0.
5. Dolly in on the nose and carefully paint away the hairs.
I've done all this and when I use try painting away the hairs, nothing happens. So frustrating!
Anyone have any ideas?:banghead:

Some ideas:
Make sure your Maya Project is set to a writable directory, and you've saved your scene in that directory.
Make sure you are painting into the correct fur description, if you have several in your scene and maybe more than one on each surface. (try to 'flood' values of 0 or 1 on the whole surface's baldness to check that you are editing the right thing.)
Make sure you haven't set your opacity to 0 and that painting in general is working on other attributes.
Make sure your fur feedback node has enough samples in U and V that you can see hairs in the small area you are painting.
Make sure baldness doesn't have a lot of noise on it or a very low map multiplier or anything under details in the fur description.

check. only have one fur description.

brush opacity is at 1, and nothing in this tool is working. I can't use Bald, Direction, Length, nothing.
Make sure your fur feedback node has enough samples in U and V that you can see hairs in the small area you are painting.
Set U and V to 128 from 32. still nada.
Make sure baldness doesn't have a lot of noise on it or a very low map multiplier or anything under details in the fur description.

Solved it! I had the wrong UV Set selected. I created a couple different UV sets to try to texture him and forgot to select the correct one!
Thanks for your help!
