Hi i am trying to apply FUR to my bear character. I have made a hair system and made it nurbs and then attached it to the fur, so the fur waves when my bear walks. But the thing is that the fur goes through the body, the hair system collides with it but the fur goes through.
How can i get the fur to interact with my character?

well dude
first of all bear fur intereaction with its body is almost negligable !

also if u still wanna have it u can add n numbers( min number ) of collide sphere/cube for various collision for eg u can use one collide sphere and place it around the mouth, one around the leg (ofcourse u need to tweak it ) etc these collison doesnt get rendered so no worries abt it !!!

but i really dont think tht it needs to collide with the body rather it has to be stiff on the body ! hardly blowin if there is a strong wind or sumthin !

Maybe try stiffening the base area of the hair and leave the ends flexible.

Well fur is really limited and won't understand collisions. The only thing I can think of is to make sure your hair system curves are shorter than the fur. That way the fur will fallow the hair curves and not go through the bear geometry. Plus do what Aikiman suggested and stiffen the hair curves at the base.

well i will go with stiffer hair system and increase the start curve attract value to be sure the hair system wont go through the geometry. When the bear moves fast, i keyframe the start curve attract at a higher value.
But my question is, can i get better fur movements if i use houdini? I have heard some rumors that houdini handles fur much better than maya does?
