I thought this would be or particular interest to C4D users so I'm posting this here.

I have been taking a number of VFX courses at fxphd.com for the past 15 months. I was delighted to find out today that Tim Clapman of HYPA.TV will be heading up a new motion-graphics centric course in After Effects.

Tim they haven't posted a summary of the course on fxphd yet but of you're out there... I was wondering how much of the course will touch on 3D AE integration and will you be using C4D in any of your classes?

BTW if anyone is interested the courses at fxphd.com are a great value. They are world-class as are the people who run the show there. I believe that classes begin next week.

Attaching to thread to see if Tim replies about the 3d, c4d and ae questions. I'll definately join if Tim covers AE and C4d. I missed out on the power integration tour this year so i've been looking for other ways to learn mograph, ae and c4d. This sounds interesting.

Looks like some nice topics on that site. Thanks for the headsup.

here is Tim's post from mograph.net:

"Thanks mographers for the enthusiasm! I hope the course lives up to your expectations. It won't be a beginners course so you'll need to know AE a little, but I will still cover some fundamental aspects of using the app. I've planned the first 8 lessons with the intention of asking potential students what subjects they'd like to see for the last two lessons.

Here's the lesson plan so far . . .

Class 01 : Creating a title sequence using vector elements.
In this lesson we will create a faux intro title using vector graphics. This lesson will look at continually rasterising elements, parenting and working with masks and mattes.

Class 02 : Particle systems in After Effects 01
This lesson will explore particle systems, as they are such complex and diverse effects, this will span over two lessons. We will first discuss exactly what is a particle system, then we will look at various particle effects that are included with After Effects.

Class 03 : Particle systems in After Effects 02
This lesson will continue on from lesson one. We will look at some practical uses for particle systems when creating motion graphics. We will also look at some of the 3rd party solutions available and the advantages they offer.

Class 04 : Creating Terry Gilliam puppet style animation.
For this class we shall look at ways of animating still images. Using a cut up photograph, we will explore parenting and expressions to animate a character using one control layer.

Class 05 : Text in After Effects.
This class will explore the different methods of working with type in After Effects. We will look at text layers, how they can be controlled using text animators and range selectors. Finally we'll have a look at CS3's new per character 3D feature.

Class 06 : Compositing 3D passes and working with data from 3D applications.
In this class we will look at incorporating 3D renders in your After Effects projects. We will study the different passes that can be output and then use these to enhance our projects. We will also explore attaching effect points to 3D data that we've imported.

Class 07 : 3D in After Effects 01
This will explore the 3D world of After Effects. This class will span two weeks and you will create a graphic ident using After Effects 3D layers, shape layers, cameras and lights.

Class 08 : 3D in After Effects 02
Completing the animation started the previous week.

It should be a fun course and it would be great to see some of you there.

cheers
Tim

Some very useful things there. When does the class start, anyone know?

I'm sure it'll be a good class -- Tim rocks.

I keep beating the drum for more training materials specifically geared to AE/C4D integration, but potential content providers keep telling me they don't expect much demand. Personally I think there would be exceptional demand.

Hi

The course will be primarily AE based, but I will certainly look at incorporating 3D into your workflow. We do use Cinema4d so that will be covered, but I'll try to make it more generic so the examples could work with any 3D application.

The lessons are not set in stone, and I think I'm going to drop the text in AE lesson as it seems a bit too basic. I've been asking for feedback for the last few lessons and had some great suggestions already. I've just got to work out my lesson plan for those.

Thanks for taking an interest.

Oh and Happy New Year to you all!

Nope. No point in going crazy about 3D integration with just one program. What you are proposing would only make sense if seen from the side of a 3D artist, which doesn't really do the matter justice. And then again, it's not that C4D would be the only program on this planet one would want to integrate with AE, Nuke, Fusion or whateva.... I'll be putting up some stuff on my website in a few days which should illustrate that the whole matter is of much grander scope then the limited approach suggested by you.

:) Well, I didn't suggest much in the way of scope, actually. :)

But I think you may be thinking along the same lines. Basically I'm talking about a course on compositing geared toward the 3D-centric artist. Even if it uses C4D/AE (which of course would be my preference), it would be beneficial to anyone with a lot of 3D experience but less compositing experience. There's probably an equal or greater need for the opposite as well (3D integration for the 2D-centric artist).

Here's something I was hinting about:
