Title: the portrait of Anna
Name: Elizabeth Le
Country: Norway
Software: Painter

this painting was done as a Christmas gift for a friend of mine who requested a portrait of herself =) Turning up a little on the late side, I must confess, as it was a tad more difficult than I had expected it to be. I've honestly never had that much trouble doing skin before T_T ~ Anyways, I think she wanted a classic one, so I tried not to stray too much away from the reference picture (although, I was sorely tempted to make it less realistic-looking...). I picked a golden theme much because she's a fan of most things...er...gold. She also likes a lot of Asian stuff, so I took the liberty of including a few Asian elements in the picture.

The image was sketched on paper and coloured in PainterIX. Thank you for looking and happy new years =)

I think you did a great job! The portrait looks very realistic; all the textures and fabrics look very nice. I would add a few minor imperfections to her skin to make it more "live-like" but overall it is a very good quality work. Congratulations.

I'm usually not so fond of that kind of over-rendered portrait one can see so often on CGTalk. But I have to admit this one has something different. You made it with love, and it shows. Congrats.

actually I'm not all too keen on it either. How I've come to get stuck doing these types of portraits over and again is beyond me...I need to have ppl stop asking me doing portraits of themselves =_= ~ But thanx for comment anyway ^^

That is a beautiful Portrait. Her skin looks buttery, your rendition of the fabric is excellent.

But I agree with other comments, some slight imperfections would add to the overall beauty.
The portrait has a very classic look without the classic color. That is definately a beautiful gift. What a friend you are.

I have to disagree about the "over-rendered" concept. I'm not a fan of smoothing every color, regardless if it needs it or not. Mind you, I'm not a fan of visible brushstrokes left *just* because they are *supposed* to make a picture more "painterly". There are times brushstrokes are needed, but a lot of the time they are not. This is one of them. This is smooth, but absolutely alive; it just glows. More to the point, this really captures her character. Absolutely fabulous job.

5 stars from me.
