I won't say too much about the history of Egypt except for that they worshipped the cat in ancient Egypt referring to the cat as the Sun God.
The rays in the background symbolize the rays of the sun. The cat itself symbolizes the sun. The colors show warmth (now that was stating the obvious wasn't it?) heh.
The actual grid that can be seen on the cat is the people's belief - if enough people believe in something it creates an image, it creates their reality.
