I don't think gollum is really from a race that looks like him, isn't he really a hobbit (river folk)? From my understanding he's been corrupted by the ring and that's why he looks how he does.
If you look at the beginning of the trilogy (movie wise) you see a very hobbitish hand reaching down to pluck the ring from the riverbed.
yeah gollum was technically a hobbit that was corrupted, and afaik gollum didnt fish the ring out of the river, but his friend Deagol(sp?) did and then gollum killed him for it :P but the model looks great! i laughed when i saw it and the thread title
Gullom killed his friend ? from where did u got all of this ..

Its a nice concept, but yeah like others said, it cant be gollums father. Gollum would probably have been an age anyway and whose to say his father was still around when he was a hobbit?

I think Gollums dad should look much more sad-faced because of his trouble-making son!
Otherwise, nice idea, great model!

I believe the Gollum lore came from the simarrillion I to do believe gollum did kill his friend but I can't quite remember. It has been ages since I read that book. But it tells you what valinor is and how middle earth was created and who corrupted and created sauron. It is actually mentioned in the beginning of the movie who the person was that created sauron. When Gandalf talks about how he didnt die and how he faught the balrog of Morgoth . Morgoth was the dark being that created sauron. Morgoth was pretty much a god so how the hell sauron overthrew him I can't remember but it was some intense page reading.
Hmmm damn strayed off subject somebody shoulda stopped me:)

Nice one :bounce: , like a human dumbo or something :)
As for this about gollum having been a hobbit, wasnt it just refered to as a hobbit-like folk, probably the hobbits ancestors, seeing as gollum is several hundred years old...or what not...
anywho, great work keep it up, and post it so we can see :)

well I just read the simarrillion, he was a hobbit (also called river folk) and him and his friend were fishing... Then his friend found the ring in the water and gollom drown him to get it. Gollom is his new name, however his old name was smeagol.
so his dad would be a hobbit... But the idea was pretty class and Its funny none the less as well as very well done... just doesn't fit into the world :D lol.

Gandalf recounts the story of the ring in Lord of the Rings, and I believe he mentions that Gollum had likely been of an older breed of Hobbits. There's a notation on the origins of Hobbits in the introduction to LOTR, which can help figuring out where Gollum came from and who his people were.

Sméagol (Gollum) murdered his cousin Déagol who found the ring while fishing. He was a real thing Hobbit of the Stoor strain, born in the Stoor settlement near the Gladden Fields. This is told to us by Gandalf, some in the Hobbit, some in LOTR.

the quality of that work (modeling, and texturing) is really good, but the character lacks spirit or realism... maybe its the fact that his ears should be showing the effects of gravity or you could also try some more dramatic lighting and maybe some ear pierces!
Cheers,

To forget the symantics around whether or not this could be Gollums dad for a moment I would like to offer a few suggestions to help finish this model. Although it was a nice/lame try to attract viewers to this thread - This model is perhaps already half way there to being good.
Here are some comments below.
The ears look quite plastic...like a kids toy. I think the ears need a lot more work.
The mouth lacks character...since he doesnt have an expression it doesnt help.
The texturing is the least finished part? Was the texturing done with procedurals and weightmaps? If so I suggest you break out photoshop.
Overall he looks quite dead...so perhaps a rejig of the face might help.
Lastly the lighting could do with improving...this overcast look is going out of date.
If you two guys are looking for a job in the industry I suggest pushing yoursleves further with this image...Once finished I think you could have a shot.
Also why is there two people creating this? Are you lovers? Just kidding 8-)
Hope you dont mind the crits - they are honest and I hope they will help.
