Hello all,

This is my first post on this site. It looks like there are a lot of talented people here who are actually willing to give out advice, so I'm gonna try and take advantage of that. I have a few characters that I've been working on that I want to eventually put into a short. Please let me know what you think or if certain areas need improving.

This is my latest character, Frankenstein. I'm only a few hours into him so I haven't made it to certain details like the lips and the hair is still very jagged. But let me know what you think so far.

And here is what I have of the body so far. Again, I'm only an hour into it, but I'd like to get feedback before I get lost in the details.

Don't really have any criticism at this stage. Does he have a neck - you know, with the protruding bolts? If not, I think he should have one.

The bolts will be on there eventually, I didn't forget about them. But I first want to get further along on the body.

I ran into a bit of a snag. I am trying to make Frankie's hands and I seem to be getting close but am just a bit off. I want him to have nice hands, but I don't want them to be super detailed because I don't want it to become a rigging nightmare. I was wondering if anybody has a good technique for hands or knows a good tutorial or anything. I want him to have hands like Sully from Monsters Inc. Where they look really chubby and soft, almost paw like. Any thoughts?

This is as far as I got on the one finger...

Hehehe cool character

Right now, the head seems to be floating in the air though - does he have a neck? :surprised
C'mon, you can't have a Frankie without a big old neck with some nasty bolts through it ;)

The body could do with a little more shaping. Right now it's a bit balloony, well the torso is, in any case. Try working on the shapes a little more, give it some more definition :)

The hands look fine, I think. Show a wireframe though, so we can get a good idea of how your poly count is, as well as your actual structure. The way you are doing it doesn't look like it would be problematic for rigging :)

Oh, and by the way, welcome to CG Talk!!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. It seems I better get that neck and bolts on there quick, everybody mentions them.

Leigh - I have some plans for the details in the body. I want to make his coat really tight with the buttons straining to stay attached. I'm wondering if I should put "Frankie" on the coat right above a chest pocket. Then I want to have one of his shoes torn with his toes sticking out. I wish I had more time to work on him though. Right now its just an hour here and there. Anyway, here is the wireframe of the finger. I didn't get to work on it since last night. I don't have much experience with rigging and animating characters yet so if you think the knuckles won't bend right please let me know.

Hmmm... I haven't done a hell of a lot of rigging and animating in my day (I detest it), but it looks to me like you shouldn't have any problems with that

Okay, I'm in the process of texturing Frankenstein. This is the first time I've done a custom texture to this degree so I'm looking for tips and pointers if you guys have any. I've seen some awesomely textured characters on this board so I know some of you should have some decent tips for me. Her are the files...

Frankenstein Face (http://amcmahon.250free.com/Frankenstein/frankensteinface.jpg)
Frankenstein Body (http://amcmahon.250free.com/Frankenstein/frankensteinbody.jpg)
Frankenstein Hand (http://amcmahon.250free.com/Frankenstein/frankhand.jpg)

oh, I haven't gotten to texturing the bolts yet, they will be pretty rusty.

oh darn, you already textured him. I would think that cel shading him might've looked real cool. But good work anyways!!!
