Cool idea, nice pics. It seems a lttle top heavy as in a lot of waterfall and not enough everything else, and just watch things like the tops of trees getting fuzzy and light sources and things like that. Nice work. :)

Wow, love this a lot, i agree with Ryan, however i may have a solution for you, as i personally feel that there is too much waterfall. Dont get rid of it i would personally have a pontoon or pier in the bottom left and quite large. Where the aztecs fish or wash clothes from or a shrine. this will give you a chance to put relics , pots pans tribal clothing to give it a sense of being. My picure editor always wants a human feel to any composition.this will give a strong foreground element whilst maintaining the rythmn of the composition.
Love this image, happy new year

This is looking very nice. I agree that you should have something at the bottom left , not sure what but something dark , right now all your darks are at the top right. You might want to level that out to help the composition and keep the viewers eye in the image :D
Looking forward to an update!

the concept and idea is good but you need to spend more time for attention to detail, it happened to me sometimes that I want to really see one painting done and I just quit working anymore, to see it finished, but a nice painting requires time and attention to detail, when you have a good idea like this one I suggest that spend time till you create an artistic eye and critic your own painting . copare it with the proffesional matte painting out there , think and realize what are you missing to improve your painting in a proffesional way, I hope I made myself clear with this comment but I mean that .. for example the trees ,they look you just painted out with a soft brush the edge, they are cut in a very "cheap" way , I mean attention to detail there is needed, where you can see some branches , different sizes and kinds of trees, you have cloned 2 times the same pyramid, I suggest trying to change their shape so they don't look like a simple clone, also work with light and shadows on them , the background is good, keep it up !
