View Full Version : Zen garden - need help :)
kamiru 04-23-2003, 01:28 PM Hi.
I'm working on a virtual Ryoanji stone garden (I have found a great image collection of the Ryoanji here: http://academic.bowdoin.edu/zen/int...ate.shtml?ryoan), which will be a part of a japanese-oriented animation project. I have done a few test models, but the main problem for me is proper texturing of the white raked sand (shirakawasuna). Anyone has an idea how to do it properly? I was trying to use some pebble image with the bump and diffuse map, but it looks very flat...
As for the rocks, I think that I will try to make some nice surface using Hypervoxels (I'm using LW).
Best regards,

Hi.
Last night I was trying to get the surface using hypervoxels, but the effect is kind
of "ugly".

To Leigh: I didn't post the picture, because I'm surfacing this test square for a few days with different ways and the effect is still the same; the surface is: too dark, too flat, or the "pebbles" are too small... And I'm too shy to post bad pictures ;)

I like the surface you posted and think it will work. It might be to dark because of your lighting. Also do you have the surface diffusing a lot of the light? Sorry I can't give you much help but I think once you put that surface into your scene it will look fine.

Hmm... Maybe I should really give up for some time now, and go back to the modelling. I think that I will be able to post first pictures of the scene next week, with all the surfaces attached.
And we will see if it is good enough

Ok, here is the newest one:

I think that it looks good (sand). Now I'm going to make some nice texture for the stones, and later (this weekend) most of the garden modelling.
I will post some pictures on monday :)

It's looking good so far. Should be a nice scene when you are done.

No pictures yet....
I think that I will start a new model this evening, because of the very high polugon count of the current model. I was trying to render the image last night, but it was a horrible long to process the scene on my G4 (dual 867). I think that I will also add some more RAM today, maybe that will speed up render process (I'm still with 256 MB... :p )
