I've been trying like crazy to figure out how I can use my channel palette to cut out an image of a palm tree. The palm tree I have attached is what I'm talking about. I tried using the wand tool, but that doesn't get all the empty space from in between the leaves of the palm tree, it only gets most of the sky, but not the sky from inbetween the leaves. I tried using the channel to highlight everything and delete the sky in between the leaves so the only cut out image I have is the palm tree. But I can't seem to do it.

can anyone help me??

thanks

I can't seem to attach the pic of what I'm talking about, but if you go to this website you can choose any palm tree and see what I'm talking about.

So you tried to duplicate the blue channel and adding the curves there? I got a useful output with this technique so you might try again :)

Hi, first make a duplicate, convert it to Lab another to cmyk and look at the channels to see which one isolates it best (also compare to your rgb channels too) When you find one that is pretty good, but needs some work, duplicate that channel to work with.

Some tricks to try: select all, copy the channel, then paste, then hit command (I'm a mac user) shift F this will bring up a fade dialog box, you can change the mode to blend with soft light whatever helps to define more.

Also, and after the above, using a soft brush, 30% pressure or so, use black and white to paint over the areas, but make sure your bush is set to OVERLAY otherwise it would make for alot of tedious work.

Hope that helps.
