View Full Version : Two questions - LCD and Wacom
Hi
I am buying this system:
Q6600, Asus motherboard, 8Gb Ram 800Mhz, ATI Firegl v5600, 2 X 250Gb plus 1000Gb WD External, Windows x64.(Already ordered)
Now I am looking for a 24" LCD and I came across this :
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=718085
A Hyundai PVA panel, 24" LCD Model 241D, with quite nice features.
First of all, what do you guys think about the monitor, can you recommend anything better for around the same price.
And secondly I have never used a wacom or any tablet for that matter before till now and I want to buy one with my system, should I get an A3, A4 or the new 12WX Cintiq. Which will suit the 24" LCD and considering I have never used a tablet before, which one should I opt for? And I am looking for good results with sketching, painting, texturing and working on high resolutions.
Anyways looking for your invaluable suggestions. Thanks in advance.
Tejinder.

I just bought a cintiq 12 this month and I can tell it`s a great tool as a secondary monitor.
Below is a screen grab, the upper screen is my 1680x1050 main monitor and the lower screen is the cintiq. The windows desktop is easy to configure as same as the cintiq config.
Under modo I put all the tools on the tablet screen to have on the other screen as much space for modeling as possible.
Ah and switching between the two screens is easy to set up: by express keys or by one of the buttons on the grip pen :)
I know now that if I have the $$$ I`ll buy the cintiq 21. It`s great to work on screen but the "small" res of 1280 is not enough for advanced tools like modo. But coupled with a second monitor it`s a real pleasure and a powerful tool.
Anyway I had an intuos3 tablet for a year now and can`t imagine to go back to working with a mouse :) and I`m almost using it working with 3d tools.
Ah and I`m working on a Q6600 quad core with asus motherboard and it is great :)

Hi bluemagicuk, I have been on the overclockers website and the same screen hyundai 241d is almost the same price. The reason i want to go with that monitor is that it has got a better quality panel along with DVI, Component and HDMI support. The place where I work, we do sell the acer 24", but I am looking for something i can also use with my xbox360, ps3, dvd/bluray players, and skyhd box, all of which i have yet to get, but because of the space constraints, i want the 24" which could serve the purpose, instead of buying a hd tv with low resolution and high price tag.
Anyways thanks for the reply.
Nomad, great seems you have a good setup there. One thing, you are running vista right. Which version is it? Ultimate x64? and how is it performing. Are there any incompatibility issues or anything. How does the OS perform overall with 3d applications. I will be running 3ds max, maya ple and xsi mod tool along with photoshop. Would you recommend getting Vista x64 instead of x64 professional? and yes the Cintiq 12 does look cool, but I will have to wait and save £800(almost the same price as my pc) to get one in the coming months.
Just the vista bit and still looking for a good 24" monitor.

Glad it my comments helps, for the tablet get an intuos 3 A5 wide for start, you`ll see the difference in working with a tablet compared to a mouse. Even buy a bamboo if you need to spare cash, you`ll not be desapointed.
I`m running on Vista business 64bit. All around frinds tells me bugs and problems with vista but I have NONE! The only thing which not works is my old scanner because canon did not made vista drivers for it. For the performace as far as you turn off the aero thing you`ll have full power dedicated to your 3d apps and all of them in their new versions works well on a 64bit system.
Ok I am about to purchase a 24" Hyundai 241D widescreen and I want to know which wacom size will suit the widescreen monitor of that size. Which will be the best -
A3 DTP or CAD(don't know which one to go for)
A4 Special Edition
or A5 Wide Special Edition
Will the A5 wide be the best match or A4 will be good out of the two.
Or does the aspect ratio doesn't matter with wacom tablets?
I want good performance and want to work on large resolutions with both 2d and 3d for painting, texturing etc.
Please if someone could point me in the right direction.
