Hi,

I can get a major discount for the Siemens fujitsu amilo 2510 with a athlon 64 cpu. It's gonna cost me 500 euro instead of +-750 euro in store. So thats a pretty good price, but i want to know if it can do decent 3D modeling. Or does it get stuck at 100K polies? I have seen some benchmark tests for the turion and sempron CPU's wich where very good. But i can't find much info on the athlon 64 CPU. But for what i understand the athlon is better so i should buy it.

My main interest for buying a laptop is to plug it in at one of my clients to show of some work and do some 3D/2D CG in some public spaces. The battery will only live about 1 1/2 hour so thats kinda short but a very expensive laptop may reach 3 hours wich is also short.

So my question actually is, do i save 250 euro with this buy. Or do i throw away 500 euro if i get this notebook?

What's the clocked speed? This will determine how fast the program makes a calculation such as moving the object, using tools on the object (extruding edges, merging vertices), smoothing the object or animating the object.

How much ram? This will determine how many objects and to what density your computer can store in real-time.

What kind of video card? This will determine how quickly it will display your model in real-time as you move around it.

What 3D program? This will determine how efficient it is at power consumption and how optimized it is for working with large amounts of polys.

As far as showing a client, a good graphics card is key. Unless you will be using tools/calculations while they are watching, the only thing you need is a good video card and a decent amount of RAM depending on the scene size.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi

Srry for being lazy and just posting the name :D.

Harddisc - 160 GB
memory - 2GB ddr2
Video - Ati Radeon X1200 - 256 MB ram
CPU - athlon 64 1.8+ Ghz

I'm gonna use 3D max 8.0, PS CS2 and maybe some game editors like Hammer and unrealed.

A friend of mine says i should get it. He says the only good notebook is a cheap notebook unless you realy need a fast and mobile on together. I don't need a monster notebook but i do like to do some 3D with it. As long as i can build stuff up to 100K polies fairly smooth i can assamble the different components on a normal PC.

Yeah, that set-up should be fine. It's definetly not the best but for what you are doing it sounds fine. RAM is usually the problem people encounter. The processor is a bit slow but I don't think it will hender you much if any.
