Im planning on learning some character animation hopefully from 2 sources,

Jeff Lews dvds http://www.jefflew.com/

and

this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Animators-Survival-Kit-Principles-Stop-motion/dp/0571202284

and then simply by watching others peoples demo reels and such, so if you have any other good sources for somone learning from home, please post them.

But my main question is, what sort of rig would you suggest i use for practising, im quite comfortanle with rigging, so i plan on building it myself. I ask because you tend to see a lot of similar rigs being used by Animation schools and in demo reels, and im wondering is there some sort of standard that everyone uses to begin with? or does each scool/animation mentors/students etc design their own.

I plan on building somthing like the one used here

http://www.digitaltutors.com/store/product.php?productid=2195&cat=40&page=2

which have no facial animation, so i'll have to maybe add some face morphs or maybe even a facial bone setup.

Will be using 3ds Max

please advise
