View Full Version : Photorealism: mediterranean house
sergio2 04-23-2003, 04:51 AM i'm currently making a 3D house/garden using Cinema 4DXL 7: i made all the plants and materials etc from scratch (no libraries). i'm trying to go for photorealism, but i'm stuck with where i am at now. any suggestions?
edit: i put some of these images in an older thread, but i thought it was removed by a moderator (links not working). but i just found the old one and deleted it, so thanks to the person who gave me advice there.

although these (below) are older images, they show my take on daylight and different housing materials. is this how they should look? (ignore the simplistic plants). also, i am wondering about my materials for the other scene elements, and the lighting. any suggestions would be appreciated.

and here's another older test image of the plants, but i ddn't like the ammout of light transmission, so i toned it down in the later images.

sweet stuff. those first few plant renderings look fantastic!
all i can say is that for realism, the images with the water against the stucco, i would expect the stucco to absorb a bit of water... darken up a bit stained maybe... bleeding up a bit irregularly???
great job breaking up the wood textures by direction on the shutters!
that sky would need swapped out... http://www.1000skies.com/partials/index.htm
i love that night image!
keep it up, it's looking great!

thanks for the skies link, those are really good maps... the sky i used in my images was just to provide illumination, but i couldn't find any images of real skies to map. your link will be a great help.

does anyone know about how to map panoramas to make a sky? the only way i can do it right now is to bring the image into photoshop, do a polar co-ordinates filter and do a flat projection in C4D. is this right?

hey, can more people please reply? i really need to get this project finished before the holidays are over (then its back to studying :annoyed: ) so the more advice/criticism i get, the faster this gets done.

It's coming along nicely.
I'd think about,
1. Rounding the corners, stucco would never be finished that sharply.
2. Give your bump map a bit more variation, have some areas a bit rougher, other areas a bit smoother.
3. Add timber thresholds to your doorways.
4. show some signs of age to the timber shutters
5. Maybe put a ceramic tile of some sort on the bottom of the pond and up the walls just past the water line.
Keep on rocking :airguitar

You could maybe add a couple more diffuse maps to the stucco as well to help break it up a bit more...
I agree too, the stucco could be more irregular (if being really picky) due to the nature of the material, rough zones would be seen... And a different material on the floor inside than the stucco wrapping around.
The dirt in the planter bed could be more rough and broken up...
The waters edge is too perfect as it hits the wall, maybe some foam (small amounts only!) in the corners...
Hope this helps..., cool.
personally i think the key to making this scene more realistic is to add alot more little details in the modelling. Right now it looks good as a visualization, but it lacks the detail needed for photorealism
