I am planning to make a new system now so just want some suggestions on it.

What i am looking for is a 64 bit MotherBoard + 64 Bit Processor + 4Gb Ram + 160 GB HD and a good graphics card. If there is anything else required other then this(+ ofcourse a monitor, mouse and Kb) so kindly add that also.

I tried to figure out something on the net regarding processor speed, compatiability etc.... but finally :banghead: i am a bit confused in this and my budget for the above is around $1200. The major softwares i wil run are Max , Maya, Photoshop, Combustion, Zbrush.

Kindly suggest the best combination if you are using any which doesn't cause software or hardware issues and any kind of imformation you feel that will help.

Waiting for some Hi-Tech replies...

Thank You.

Any modern system you'd buy today is 64bit. Even the ones running 32bit Windows or Vista. Just look on these forums and you'll see plenty of configurations that are within your budget. They should all be 64bit. The only thing you really need to get the 64bit-ness working is to have a 64bit OS and drivers..

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P P35 ATX - $168.00 - MSY Technology (http://www.pricespy.com.au/c_502.html?d=10691)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2.4GHz, LGA775, quad core - $285.00 - ItSky (http://www.pricespy.com.au/c_661.html?d=9987)

4GB Kingston PC2 5300 DDR2 DIMM Memory Kit CL5 2 x 2GB 667Mhz - $181.50 - Simline.com (http://www.pricespy.com.au/c_337.html?d=8588)

Seagate 160GB 7200rpm Serial ATA - $55.00 - ItSky (http://www.pricespy.com.au/c_661.html?d=2266)

Only half your price $689.5 excluding Gfx card and monitor.

Thats a quick list, you may want to check things out yourself. But that there would be quite fast. The Q6600 is quite overclockable too. The motherboard and cpu were recommended in the Atomic MPC magazine (aus).

Have a look around on pricespy though. It lists where to get the parts the cheapest price.

Hope it starts you off.

lots - Thanks for your input. :)
Sam - Looks like a very good combination. Thanks a lot.

If you're building your own then don't forget to factor in the case, psu, and media drive such as DVD/CD burner. As for the psu you'll want a good quality one with a minimum of 500 or 600 watts. You can use this utility (http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp) to figure out what you need.

I built my own Quad core system and have it successfully overclocked as well. All the info is documented somewhere in this forum. If you have any questions just ask.

Thanks Stephen (Rated 'M') :) , i forgot these things before. And thats a very useful utility you have figured.

Before anything i think i can lock "Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2.4ghz" atleast.
Q6700 is 2.66 ghz but there is a huge price difference between the two. ANd then there is "Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6850" with a much more better clock speed of 3 ghz with almost the same prize as that of Q6600. I don't know how much going for the extra cores instead of clock speed is going to help in my way of working.

Hmm yes. But the Q6600 is a really good overclocking chip, you would probably be able to get it to 3Ghz with enough cooling.

The current Quadcore CPUs are second generation with the third generation (Penryn) just becoming available. As it is usualy the case with second generation or later CPUs they are basicaly identical and only differ in how they have been tested and certified. Once the production line is going at an optimum (as it is with the Q6600 G0 stepping) usualy all CPUs of that family are technicaly identical and one type of CPU covers the whole spectrum of frequencies. This reduces production costs, increases yield and allows for overclocking, though in reality it's not realy overclocking since the chip is the same for low and high clockrates.
My bet is that at least the Q6600 and the Q6700 are completely identical.

Cheers
Björn

Sam - OK, Will probably go with this only . I will purchase in the first week of Jan so still i will keep looking for more better option. Otherwise Q6600 still looks the best within the range.

Björn - Thanks for the information. :)

I just also would like to know your opinion on the Qx series. It is 3-4 times costlier then q6600 but i can rethink on my budget if it is worth paying.

HERE (http://compare.intel.com/pcc/showchart.aspx?mmID=33423,891344,891046,885492&familyID=1) is the comparison of the processsors on Intel. Clearly the Qx series looks much more tempting technically, but Q6600 is what more people are going for. So what do you people say?

QX is really good, but i think Intel should/will slash its prices. They are too high now. Then there is Q9550(2.83GHz with total 12MB of cache) coming up this month or next month with price anywhere between $500-600, but as of now
Q6600 rules.

Hmmm. Q9550 really looks attractive, but i don't think i can wait for it. The release date is not yet out officially. SO will stick to q6600.

Ok Friends, so here is my purchse going to be:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P P35

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2.4GHz

512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT

4GB Kingston PC2 5300 DDR2 DIMM Memory Kit CL5 2 x 2GB 667Mhz

Seagate 320GB 7200rpm

THANX once again everyone for your good suggestions.

Video card wise, The new 8800GT 512 has just been released. Its supposed to be a really great deal. Awesome card for your money.

I was also thinking of 8800GT but the prices are quite high. And i am still to choose the best 8600GT between so many flavours.
~I have got a very confused mind.~ :scream:
