i tried the wings 3d Bevel its really great. you can have your bevel go outward or inward by moving the mouse.
Does anyone know of a great Bevel Script/Plug in for maya 4x?
I keep hearing like on spriolid forums that the bevel tool is terrible in maya. I hope somone has a link or something thanks.

So are you saying that Maya 5 does have a new bevel tool? I don't understand Maya, sometimes it amazes me at how powerfull it is and other times it amazes me at how much they misssed.

Yeah thats about the size of it. The current Maya Bevel is a POS. A bevel tool that doesnt work on any object or edge but a basic uniform cube is no help to anybody.

A|W if you're listening DON'T integrate any new features until you get your bevel tool worked out. Put Duncan on it, I'm sure he can figure it out. i.e. Take a look at Max's bevel tool for example of how to do it right.

[end rant]

the plugin is called "wings3d" it also fixes a lot of other problems such as edge loops and soft selections.

it has consistent updates, and frankly the best customer support you can have compared to AW

if you MUST have a bevel tool get mjpoly tools use the cut around script that comes with it. its the closest thing i have found to a nice bevel tool. also wings 3d is great, but im sure no one likes haging to export to it for little adjustments to your model. carnia, i dont know who that is, but good luck. if she could get one made the whole cg community could stop complaining about AW laziness.

sounds like great news. i'd be more than happy to help her beta test it.

When you think what a bevel is it is amazing to think it is so hard to put in maya

A bevel is a simple inset and shift, why can not someone put together a script that will inset and or shift a selected polygin

im not sure if i said it on here yet. maybe im just repeating but if you get MJ poly tools the Cutaround script, it does a really nice bevel.
