Hi guys,
Its been awhile since I posted. I recently graduated from QUT and have an animation demo reel I'll like to share!
I modelled the cow, girl and the dog (wearing costume) in Maya and used The Setup Machine for rigging. The dog was inspired by the Gobelin's 'Sebastian' film because it had the cutest design :D

I'm currently looking for work and would love to hear any comments or feedback!

Well, I hope you guys like it :)

I really like the first few shots but i think i would drop the pushing and singing dude. Maybe as well the shaking dog towards the end. The fourth shot with the doggy creature is great! Nice drawings too :)

Realy nice work!
To strenghten it further I would take out a couple of your weaker pieces. I don't think you need the dog shot at the end, and the box push looks kind of thrown in there. Your other pieces are much stronger, and I think your overall reel would benefit from the trim.
Great job!

Hi Loolarge and jojojojo,
thanks for the feedback! I think you guys are right about leaving out those playblasts.
Afew weeks ago someone also suggested me to take out the singing generi one too. Those playblasts were little practices I thought I could add in the reel so it wouldn't be too short :P But I guess quality is better than quantity!
I don't think I have other polished animations to replace those ones just yet (but a bunch of animation tests similar to those playblasts for practice!),
so I might get to work on that sometime!
Thanks again guys :)
btw, cool demoreel you have Loolarge :D

A small render of the 3 characters posing thats not in the reel :P That girl character went through quite afew design changes because she kept turning out uncanny and creepy looking! But finally got a look that was simple and appealing enough.

I agree with the previous comments. Some pieces are awesome, but the the pushing dude and the singing one are dragging the whole Reel down a little bit.

I'm not a fan of putting everything into Reels. Keep it only Animation reel.

All the best and keep it up ! :)

Hi Sandra

The opening animation was pretty good. But you may have to watch your pacing a little. Somehow it slacks up towards the middle.

Also, I have to say that your rendering at times is a little flat. In a reel, presentation is key and as somebody who hires animators, I usually want to see nice presentation and good pacing as these are also key components in determining how creative this person is.

I kinda like your character designs. Also, I like the style in which you showed a little red ball falling and spinning. That's quite a unique style. Anyway keep up your good work! :)

Kind regards,
Aldric

stefek: Thanks for your comment. I'll take out those playblast clips from the reel and update it on the post soon :)

musicguy: Nice to hear your thoughts on the reel :) I'll definately keep your advice in mind next time I make new clips. Thanks for critiqueing :D

I agree with the previous comments, and just want to say that I love the second clip with the dog, it's really cute.

I won’t repeat what the others have said, so I’ll just add this:

1) I’d avoid using the walking bull. It has lots of animation principles in it used... a lot... it’s not really realistic or cartoony and it just looks like you might not know how to use restraint when using those principles. The first piece goes a little over board as well at times, but you can’t lose that. At least the first piece says to me that you’re doing it for stylistic reasons, but by the time I see the bull it’s painting an unfavourable picture.

2) I love the artwork at the end but without other non-animation work in there it seems silly to ruin the focus on what could be a really good animation reel.

Otherwise though... good work.

awesome aniamtion...
thera are only two things that i don't like
1) the minotaur walk cycle
2) and the animation about push rock....

there aren't good like the others animation

in a reel you must show only your best work...
of course this is my personal opinion

bye

I agree with the others that you should focus on just having the best in there instead of focusing on keeping a lengthy showreel. My favorites were the acting shots (first and "nosehair") and the 2d art at the end. :)

The playblasts are taken out and the reel is updated in the links :)

Thanks for the crits and comments everyone!
Its great to hear what people like and don't like about it and stuff :D I'll try get to work on more animations and hopefully be able to replace some of the ones on my reel or something :P At the moment I'm gonna design some new characters to practice texturing and might get to animate those if all works well! Thanks again guys :)
