View Full Version : Character :: Rockstar Self Caricature (My Expose Entry)
RockinAkin 04-22-2003, 07:46 PM Hi All,
Here is the beginning of my entry for Expose.
Some of you might reccognize this model from my entry in the "3D Living Toons" challenge we had a few months back. (HERE (http://www.cgchallenge.com/view_entry.php?entry_id=208))
I've reworked almost the entire Model, UVW's, Textures, Rigging, Pose, Etc... and I am getting much closer to finally being happy with it. :D
I'm going to move on to working on an environment for him next, and will try to finish in time for the Expose deadline. And of course, I'll post my progress in this thread as I go.
Thanks for looking,
Tell me what you think.

hahah
looks like Chino from teh deftones
cool cartoony style
and um yea.. whats up witht eh bending guitar neck? im not sure if it works even as a stylistic choice.. but i think thats cuz its a still.. should look alright animated
I like everything apart from the hands/fingers... I think it's mostly the nails that make them look odd.
But aside from that - really nice!
:D

:D I've actually gotten that from a few of my friends, and ironically enough, I did listen to quite a lot of Deftones (as well as other bands) while creating this model. :buttrock:
I'll get to work on the hands ASAP.

Hi again,
Started modeling the environment for this guy today.
Updates coming very soon, maybe tonight or tommorrow.
Until then, I thought I'd share the inspiration for the environment I'm planning to put this guy in:

The SNL music stage.

Alright, just thought I'd share a beta render I cranked out a few minutes ago.
http://users.starpower.net/kamaelec/Picture-StageWIP01.jpg
The environment model is almost complete, just need to spend some time adding the tiny details that no one will probably notice in the end anyways.
Texturing is coming up next, but I wont be able to start that until next weekend due to my final exams. :thumbsdow
And Comments and Crits most appreciated,

Looks pretty cool. I remember seeing your challenge entry and not really liking it, to be honest. But it looks a lot better now.
About that bending guitar neck, I think you ought to have yourself bending one of the strings really hard, so that it looks as if your effort in bending the string is also bending the neck. And your facial expression is a bit boring. Looks like you're concentrating on what you're playing, which is realistic, but not very "cool".

Great job. I like the clothing a lot. I see a couple problems, however.
First, the spot where the cable from the guitar first touches the ground could be smoother. The cable seems to curve very nicely throughout its entire length except for that one spot where it first touches the ground.
Second, it looks as if the cable is permanently attached to the guitar. Don't most, if not, all guitars use a 1/4" phone jack? I just cannot think of a situation where one would want the cable permanently attached like that.
What do you think?

I love how your pic is turning out. The cartoonish style of your little rocker is kool looking :buttrock: . And your stage is looking awsome!

im thinking of basing my entire final senior animation on a deftones songs, i have couple years to find the right one, but anything inspired by them or any of the side projects is awesome, uncluding this, rock :buttrock:

Hi All,
Finishing up the last details before composing the scene, and lighting.
I improved the pose, fixed the fingers everyone got on my case about :D , and am now trying to work out a better last minute facial expression.
So i need some quick opinions from you all - please!
WHICH FACIAL EXPRESSION DO YOU LIKE THE BEST?
http://users.starpower.net/kamaelec/Picture-Pose01.jpg
-OR-
http://users.starpower.net/kamaelec/Picture-Pose02.jpg
AND, what can i do to either of them that will make the facial expression "great"
I'm also thinking about adding some motion blur to the right hand to give him a better sense of action.

I actually used a scanned in images of my clothes for the diffuse and bump mapping, then touched them up in photoshop to fit the uvw's.
Just to let you all know, I'm STILL working on this image, and am redoing the lighting up from a certain point, I just wasn't happy with the final result, and felt it was too rushed to meet the Expose deadline.
I'll be posting the "model-sheet" of this guy in the Finished Work section today or tommorrow.
Again, thanks all.
