View Full Version : Unwrap Overlapping?
acwang1 04-22-2003, 07:25 PM Hi everyonel,
Is there any way to avoid overlapping faces while doing a cylindrical uvw mapping approach on a character's head?
I am working on a high-polyhuman head and I am having some difficulties get around overlapping faces on his ears and nostrils.
Is there any better or efficent way to do this. Any inputs will be appreciated. :)
Cheers,

show us a pic..but i think what can do is go to" select face" ..under your unwrap modifier..(hit the + box ) and then select the polys that are givving you touble and apply a "planar map" (planar map button near the bottom)..hope that helps a little

Hi Dogz,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I have attached 2 images as you requested. As you can see, the red area represents those most overlapping faces are occured. By using your technique, I will need to tweak them and weld them individualy, is that what you were suggesting?
Cheers,
Alan

There is a script/plugin not sure which one that will relax your UVWs (Search for it at www.scriptspot.com, or www.maxplugins.de). Thats what I use when I have that problem, except I do it in a program called DeepUV.

Here's a tutorial for maya that discusses a way to get around the overlapping issue...
