View Full Version : Mocca3: transfering weightmaps from joint to joint ?

Hi,

this is my problem: I've two joint hierarchies driving two different meshes. Mesh A is influenced by joint chain A and mesh B is influenced by joint chain B. Both meshes have a skin object and a weighting tag. In the weight tag of mesh A all joints of chain A are entered. In the weight tag of mesh B all joints of chain B are entered. Now I want to drive BOTH meshes with only joint chain A. How can I tell the weight map of mesh B to be driven by joint chain A ? As soon as I delete the joints in the weight tag, all weighting information seem to be gone. Is there any chance to change the weighting-to-joint-assignment ?

cheers,
Gonzo

Hey Gonzo,

You could transfer the weights from A to B using VAMP or maybe a retarget tag work for what you need.

Good luck

Hey Gonzo,

You could transfer the weights from A to B using VAMP ...
Thanks Sammer, but I've already tried VAMP: it seems that with VAMP I can only transfer the whole weightmapA-is-connected-to-jointA construct from one object to another. I can't change the assignment: joint A should be connected to weigtmap B.

... or maybe a retarget tag work for what you need.
Maybe I'm missing a point but I think the retarget tag is for transfering the animation from one joint chain to another and isn't related to weightmap assignment.

It's no problem when using the good old bones with vertexmaps: I can change the bone-to-vertexmap-assignment any time by changing the entries in the restriction tag ... but I would prefer to use the new Mocca 3 tools whenever possible ...

cheers,
Gonzo
