Hey all,

Just thought I'd post my entry to the 11secondclub's December challenge here. The contest has a few more days to go, but I finished early :)

The audio is from "Mixed Nuts", and here we see Mr. Bumblebee trying to pass off a recycled Christmas gift to Mrs. Muchnick.

The arms of the characters are splines rigged to bones, the mouths are extruded splines with their control points animated, and the renderer was Vray.

Happy Holidays everyone!

hey ivanisavich, nice work as per... That fruitcake looks good enough to eat!

I like the simplicity of the arms and mouths. The blinking bulging eyes retreating into the head then coming out again is a bit strange - wondering whether going completely graphic 2d for the eye shapes may work better. I felt that his last reaction could have had a smaller mouth to sell embarassment more than horrified.

Last nit-picky point of the day - The motion blur is a bit wierd on the blue cube's first big move (post done without motion vectors?)

Gave me a good laugh, look forward to more from you in 2008! happy xmas!

Admittedl, it could just be the fact it's almost 3am, but the last expression he makes is priceless. I've watched it three times just to see it.

Hi Tyson,

I liked this one,
I love the old lady's acting at the end, she goes back to her make-up,
Closing her small bag... But.. puts him in discomfort.
Nice characters and render, theres a weird motion blur that can be seen on
santa's picture but who cares.

haha that's good. I like it. I wasn't inspired enough by this audio to participate, but you've done something good with it! The only part I think is out of place is his expression at the end. It doesn't make too much sense. Is he surprised to hear her say that?

beautiful renders too.

Very well done, love the simple characters that still convey great emotion and well timed animation mixed with great poses that push each characters personality. Great work! Wish it was mine! :)

Is he surprised to hear her say that?

Yes :) He was hoping she wouldn't notice that he's giving her the gift she gave him last year.

Thanks for the comments everyone! If I get around to it, I'll fix those motion blur issues.

Very nice!

Maybe the cake can do some squash and stretch at the end. Also when she closes the lipstick, it looks like she's touching the lips again. It's too close and small.
I love what she does but I would just rise the hands a little up to make clear what she is doing. Or maybe she doesn't have to bend forward at that moment.

Merry Christmas!

I am confused about the man facial expression about the after 6 secs clip. Just feel a bit inappropriate..

I love the contrast in acting styles between the two characters, it really adds a lot to them.

My little beef is that the male character seems a lot more animated and bouncy than the voice, which seems a bit more reserved...it still works though, it's just my personal opinion.

I'm no animator but what jumped at me instantly was how fixed in one spot his feet were when he was waiting for her reply - seemed almost glued to the floor [especially when at one point he really makes a large turn with his 'torso' and almost breaks his leg ;)] ... I think a small shift or sway would have been nice! Otherwise super:thumbsup:

Great simple characters... they somehow manage to keep this piece fresh. I wasn't inspired by the dialogue this month. But you've managed to make something worthwhile out of it.

Here are my biggest animation notes for you:

1) If I watch this naturally my eye stays on the blue character because he's zipping around and drawing attention all the time. Ideally what should have happened was that my eye would be drawn to Mrs Munchnik after he's said his first line, so that I'd see her look at the present and react. That was the priority in the shot at the time. It may be hard to see this yourself, since you've been looking at it for so long and you will look where ever you want but ask any fresh eyes to give you their opinion and I bet most of them kept looking at the blue character because he keeps moving in fun zippy ways which is distracting from her. I part this is also caused by the staging. He sits in an open space with nothing obscuring him, while she is partially hidden behind the table, and now the fruitcake!

2) Equally I'd agree with some people's thoughts on his final expression. It seems too big and since it's not followed through you just don't get the story behind his thought processes. Perhaps it should have been a subtler guilty look, largely hidden from her, so that he didn't move too much.

Asside from that though I really like this piece. Good luck.
