I dont think its necessary to have a dedicated color correction software like lustre or scratch. I like Eyeon Fusions Color Corrector. It has a great color suppression section in the node. But any compositing package will allow you to color correct your shots. After Effects, Nuke, Fusion, Combustion.

QUestion related to my existing workflow.
In After Effects i have a footage i want to composite or/and integrate into a shot.

Curves or Levels sometimes one sometimes the other
1. Place the footage i want to integrate side by side
2. Try to match the footage i want to composite channelīs shade of white gray and blacks for every channel.

Sometimes this work sometimes it doesnt. This has been my approach for several years.
aesnakes is right on target, color correction has so much to it you can do it with any composite application. Depeding for what type of media are you making your composite the room where you are should be illuminated.
