View Full Version : OpenEXR plugin by Splutterfish
Howdy !
Just to let you know, it's been announced over at their webboard that the nice folks at Splutterfish are developping an I/O plugin for the OpenEXR HDR file format from ILM, which will be free if i understand right : )
hope they won't blame me spoiling the surprise !

EXR, in case you didn't know, is a pretty revolutionary deal. It's designed as an all encompassing open image format. It can handle simple temp image requirements (ie lossless compression of low-bit depth) all the way to HDR bit-depth with embedded camera data.
Neat stuff!

You're right, it's going to be free. :)

Oh cool... Now if Adobe would support the EXR format in Photoshop and AfterEffects....

Heya,
Unfortunately Photoshop is limited to 8bit/channel images mostly. 16bit/channel support is limited to a few commands.
Nevertheless, the OpenEXR group within ILM are working on Photoshop support (check the OpenEXR archives).
There's various other applications that already support OpenEXR, including the former filmGimp, CinePaint - if you want something Photoshop-like.
Best regards,
Richard Annema

The max plugin (SplutterFish), and the PhotoShop plugin (ILM) are available now, btw :)

Oh Yes.... Yes.... Yeeesssss...
That's a big thank you for the Fishes, for the time and effort they put into this (and all they are doing), and still release it or free, i think they are amongst the most helpfull and dedicated people of the max community, it's pretty cool !
