Hi Everyone,

I’m about to upgrade my workstation and need advice if this system is a good one.
Here below is what I know:

INTEL Pentium 4 box 3060 MHz 533FSB 512KB
SOK478 Hyper-Threading

ASUS P4G8X-Deluxe/GD-UAY S478(IntelE7205) AGP8x/S-ATA/FW/
GB-LAN/Snd/USB2 4xDDR/5xPCI

3 x DDR 512MB DDR/Nanya/Infinion /CL2 266MHx PC2100

Power Supply ATX-460Watt Enermax-EG465A-VE(G) FM 2x (Cooling Fans?)

1 x MAXTOR 40GB ATA133 8,5ms 7200rmp 2MB
MAX6E040L0

1 x MAXTOR 120GB ATA133 8,5ms 7200rpm 2MB
MAX6Y120L0

PNY VGA Quadro4 750 XGL AGP 128MB DDR Bulk

Windows 2000 Pro or XP

All this information tell me few, if anything because of my complete ignorance in this topic, therefore I want to ask three perhaps very silly questions:

1.They sell me this as a Dual System, is it really dual? (I see only one processor?)

2.What Operating System is the better in this particular case? (2000 Pro or XP)

3.If it is O.K., is 2630 € a reasonable prize for it?

Thanks everybody in advance for the wasting your time!

ivan

That's a really impressive system... There can be only one thing better and that's a dual processor system, but because of the hyperthreading feature, that isn't really necessary anymore

This is NOT TRUE. While you will get a boost from HT if your apps support multi-threading, it will NOT be as big of a boost that you can get from a dual-cpu system.

ivan iliev: This is not a dual CPU system. However with HT your apps (including Windows) will think it is a dual CPU system. You will get about 30% preformance boost over no HT if the app in question supports it. If not, then there is a slight decrease in preformance due to the overhead requirements.

The price looks good to me.
