Hi
I'm rigging a character for animation using all manner of posing techniques but I'm starting off the process using good old fashioned bones and claude bonet.
My problem is this:
When I overlap the C B selections, say, the pelvis and the thigh bones, the percentages stop working. They stop using the 1, 2,10 or 20% restriction and end up using 100% instead. Even if the pelvis has 2% and it overlaps the thigh of 5%, it reverts to 100%
Is there anyway to stop this happening or is it a limitation?
Are there any good tutorials on C B?
Is there a downloadable character which uses C B (other than the mime character which has basic use) for learning purposes?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's getting harder and harder to pull out my short hair without the aid of tweezers

i don't know if you can do it with CB, but have you thought about vertex maps? there you can have your percentage overlapping.

hope it helps!

I was tempted, but being a new thing I though C B would work better with the new Mocca tools. The joy with C B is that you can paint with the bones in position and get immediate feedback rather than having to guess with the vertex weights. Actually, I haven't tried the vertex maps with 8.1. Maybe it's changed.

Nope, vertex weights are still the same, unresponsive things they were.

I'm having serious problems now with this character.
Not only does the C B map not work with a ramp of percentages but now the vertex map doesn't work either.
Does anybody know how to completely wipe the information from the bones? I think I've tried everything.

Is this a known bug or have I discovered something new?

it is very easy to wipe all the information from the bones i think you will find it with less than 10 seconds of looking.

there are three buttons

1 remove paint for one bone
2 remove paint for the heirarchy
3 remove paint from the whole stinking scene.

Did all that. I even enjoy RTFM (Yes, I am a bloke). The bones still held the information somehow.
I even copy and pasted the individual elements into a different document but the problem still persisted.
The only way to rectify the problem was to re-bone the character. Started at the pelvis and added a thigh, painted C B on the thigh and the percentages worked.
I know for a fact that the percentages will be wiped out as soon as I start on the pelvis let alone the rest of the body.
How can you expect to get acurate character animations if you can't get acurate and predictable mesh deformations? Then again, I'm probably ballsing it up somewhere along the line.

there is a plugin (costs a little but is really woth it )
http://www.idea-graphics.de
Tag -Manager for R8 that can convert C B into Vertex and vice versa (plus it has lots of other nifty features)this could help ypu tremendously.

This sounds like the Badgers Nadgers! I'm off to get it.
One question: does it work with a mac?
OK, two questions: Have you used the blur feature? If so, how good does it work?

Dont know about mac, best ask the creators.
The Blur feature is simply BEST.
You have total control via curves and immediate feedback in the viewport.
you will say: yess-- why has it not been in r8 all the time-- its really a must have if you are into rigging.

the blurring even works through selections of points onto the map (so you dont blur it all !!)
Oh, and thanks to Adam T for bringing my attention to this great Plug.

Wahoo!
They say it does work on a mac. I have to order it later though because I need my personal serial number.
Thanks for the tip.
