Hey.

I'm starting a new project and have decided to do it in 3d so I thought what better place to get advice than here :)

I have the idea of creating the look of bioluminescent creatures deep in the depths. So I need to know what is the best way to go about creating this.

(A) I need to know how to create the voluminous depths. I want it pretty much pitch black but I don't want to simply use a flat black colour because that won't work at all...basically needs to look like the ocean thousands of feet down (thousands?)

(B) Then there's the actual bioluminescence, this needs to be brilliant in colour, really strong and bright but not like neon lights or something, got to look natural....like the creatures.

I'll probably aim at doing this in Maya, but i am a complete novice so explain in laymans terms please.

thanks

I'd love to know if anyone has a techique for this as well.

Bump.

Couldn't this be done using various self-illumination or incandescence maps, and maybe render out some special passes to drive glows in the comp?
