lerpiedood 04-22-2003, 07:38 AM Hello fellow cg talkers, this is my first hand, and I'm quite proud of it. It's to go with a female charactor I've been modeling. I still need to tweak it a little bit, rig it, and texture it. I'll use textures to help better define some little wrinkles, and the wrinkles on the knucles. C &C's are welcome, feel free!

I think the hand looks great, but the palm creases are a little too exaggerated (too deep).

yep, they're excellent for sure. but the creases do look pretty deep in the side view.. and the connection of the fingers to the palm (on the palm side) doesn't seem right. Nice job overall tho, I'd say they're 85% awesome

Really nice model...couple of things..
1. As mentioned i think the creases are a little deep
2. As mentioned the palmside of the finger-palm join is a little exentuated.. when the hand is flat that part of the skin is tight across..
3. If you're going for photorealism - Look at the top of you hand when flat.. how straight are your fingers? I know mine aren't.. they bend slightly (Taking right hand as an example - look on top and my index and middle finger bend to the right slightly after the middle knuckle of the finger)
Other than that its fantastic...cant wait to see the textures.

i agree with the above posts, the creases in the finger joints seem a bit simplified, are you going to add that with shaders? and it's reading a bit plastic too... it's coming along great though.

Thanks for the replies, I'll take the crits into play while tweaking up the model. This is not the final skin shader, and neither are the nails. I'm a bit color blind so it takes lots of work to get good skin. ABout the hand bending into a natural pose, I was planning on posing it once it's rigged, though it could be a good idea to bend all the joints a bit to help the rigging process.

I didnt mean bending in a natural position.. i was refering to the way fingers actually bend horizontally into each other slightly rather than round in a fist way...

Model is very good, but I´m not sure with the size of thumb. It looks small for me. :thumbsup:

Alright, I tweaked down the pal crease a bit, and also did a little more tweaking of some other stuff. Hope you like it. BTW, any advice on texturing, I'm a texturing noob, though I have a wacom and know how to use photoshop well.

in my experience.. creases on teh hadn look better when limited to bump mapping..
modelling them just makes them too pronounced.. usually

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Yeah, bump mapping is probably a good way to add the wrinkles, so I'm trying to make the model just slightly pronounced. I've been messing around and experimenting with rigging it, I've never rigged anything, so this is a real adventure. don't know when I'll get around to texturing it, I'm thinking about taking a camera to school, and showing some girls the hands, and try to convince them to let me takes close up pictures of their hands to help with textures.
