Hi there,

I think that you would learn a great deal by doing master studies - check out this thread for links: :)

In particular, check out the Anatomy Lesson Series Workshops that are linked there.

Post your progress!

Cheers,

Hi ...Miyamoto...:)

Keep doing those master studies..I like the second one that you posted, the one of the guy...the one that you were just having fun with.:)
That's the way to approach them...Even if the exact likeness is not there, you will have learned alot from the master that you are working from along the way,.. plus you will have expressed yourself at the same time...A WIN WIN APPROACH...:)
Keep going, and looking forward to seeing more of your work, and the progress that comes with it..

Here is a crap image I did now.

This is one of those days when I don't feel like drawing or painting at all,but I still FORCE myself to do it.Oh well,at least I got the expression a bit :) Will make day or two pause to relax.

Yeah, keep up with those studies. And do learn the underneath structure of the human body. Bones and muscles. No way to draw the figure without knowledge of anatomy. Teach yourself in a way that you wouldn't need to be guessing when you draw/paint. It takes time. By the way, good thing that you're working in black and white at first.

Here is some sketch,I played a bit with the muscles.Did not use reference.

I did not go for realistic style.I have the anatomy knowledge but I don't have the patience and time to show it.I have some health problems so I am bit limited now with patience and motivation :(

Hey Musashi-san,

get back to doing paintings from reference!

It's much better to follow the tracks of people who went down this path before you than getting lost in trying to master things all on your own.

There's various kinds of reference you can and should use:

- observation from life!

- mastercopies

- photography

I'm with Mu on copying the masters... it's a great way to learn through practice and observasion... Also it was surprising to me to discover how much one can learn doing anatomical drawings of bones and muscles. Definitely worth having a go at!

the DVDs you've asked about can be ordered from here:
