View Full Version : Particle Collision.
nickelmedia 04-14-2002, 05:28 AM I have a particle system that needs to react to a few objects in my scene. How do I set the particles to collide with them instead of going through them.
The scene is a can getting stabbed so I need the can opener to gain particles, and remain sticky on it, as well as a countertop.
I tried realflow, but my mesh is screwy in it.
Thanks in advance.

Look in your on line help under Particle Systems and Deflectors. You will probably need to create different Paricle Systems for different occaissions (ditto Deflectors).. ie .. one for the can opener to gain particles..refer to PArray and PCloud and using an object as an emitter. :)

ok, i figured out the deflector part. Now, is there a way for some of the particles to stay behind to create a residue? This is tomato soup so it will flow over the countertop, but it will "stain" it as well. Also, the liquid looks pretty chunky and thick. How can i thin it after it hits the surface?

Particles staying behind... different particle system but no speed maybe?
Theres a great temptation when using liquids that run to use metaparticles etc.. try it by all means if it seems feasible but it can be very slow and not give the result you're after. Don't discount creating a mesh and animating it and if need be using one of the modifiers or space warps on it.. experiment a bit.
Also in this case when you use particles for any kind of splash you might want to try playing with the settings for direction of Travel/Motion Blur... stretch in the rortaion and collision controls. :)
