Hi.
I've had the same mouse for 3D Studio MAX for about half a year now. A chordless 4-button mouse from Logitech.
It has been a really good mouse.

But now, as I start up 3dsmax4 the mouse has stopped reacting to strokes and pans. Why? And how do I get this to function again?
I mean, I used 3D Studio just this morning and all was well, but now the mouse has completly screwed up.

Thanks

Argh!
I can't work without my mouse!

If anyone know how to fix this, I'd be really happy if you could give me a reply.
I can't seem to find any sort of help in the program itself, and the mouse is working fine outside of Max.
Can't be the drivers, have installed new drivers. So, I'm guessing I've hit a wrong button somewhere and the Pan and Arc rotate-functions disappeared with that. Can't seem to find any sort of shortcut for that either.

Damnation!
I don't want to go back to using the buttons for Arc and Pan... blargh!

edit: I've also reinstalled Max, with no luck.

I keep having a very similar problem with my Logitech non-cordless. I use the middle button as the pan, but every 6 months or something it stops working (in Max). I just reinstall the drivers and it works, But if it doesn't I try reconfiguring the buttons.
You should be able to find the Pan and arc commands under "customize user interface".
Hope this helps

Thanks Max_5, the thing now is that I can't seem to assign the mouse buttons to the Pan and Arc-actions.

That happened to me too, it was really annoying. What I did was reinstall the drivers, and reconfigure the buttons so that I know exactly what they are meant for. For example I set the middle mouse button to "middle button" so that it wouldn’t conflict with anything. The problem is that is works as a default and it doesn't pick it up if I try to assign it. Although I may be able to get it to work another way, I just haven't needed to yet.

Hi max_5

I completely redid the whole thing. Reinstalled 3dsmax4, uninstalled everything I found concerning Logitech and uninstalled the drivers.

I found out that when I configure the computer to use windows XP's drivers instead of the HID-interactive Logitech-driver, the mouse works fine in 3dsmax4.
Strange as it might seem, as I had the exact same drivers this morning.

Oh well, have to try to live without the extra buttons

Thanks though.

I haven't been able to get Max to recognise the middle button as a command yet, even when editing the DefaultUI.kbd file  . Hope it still works out for you though

Hi again.
Well, as long as I don't try to install the drivers from Logitech everything works like a charm. When I do install them 3DSMAX stops responding to the middle button commands.

So, I can't program the mouse like before, no thumb button and no scrolling with the wheel. But at least I can work in 3D again.

Cheers.

is your machine wired up to download updates automatically?

get rid of logitech mouseware, had the problem with both max3 and 4, when i unistalled mouseware, or the logitech driver it helped, just go with the standard windows mousedrivers, they`ll do just fine
