Does anyone know if Shag Hair will render using Brazil, without turning the hair into geometry? I tried a quick test and the hair just came out black. So before I spend a lot of time experimenting, I thought maybe someone here would know for sure one way or the other. Thanks.

Heya,

Shag works with Brazil r/s just fine. Just don't expect Shag to be illuminated by any GI (including Skylight) - such are the limitations 3ds max imposes upon some systems.

So you'll need to have some form of pointlights that will light up the Shag:Fur/Hair. Which I'm guessing you might not have.

Okay, thanks. You're right, I was just using a skylight for illumination.

Oh, by the way ZeBoxx, I was just wondering if Shave and a Haircut will be more tightly integrated with Brazil and possibly be able to utilize GI lighting. I'm really looking forward to that one coming out for Max.

Heya,

I can't make any forward-looking statements, obviously, but consider this - Shave is an external engine, utilized by what you might see as a 3ds max front-end plugin.
Shag is much the same.

Thus, they're likely to suffer from the same problem there - they aren't 'aware' of GI/Skylight, and thus won't be lit by it.

If Joe decides to add such information to the the hair rendering engine, it could be made use of - but currently it doesn't. You'd have to use geometry hair (just as with Shag).

The product's not fully announced (lest be released) yet, though, so who knows what'll happen.

Best regards,
Richard Annema

I had this same problem with brazil. Your going to have to update to v1.4 bud you can only do this by going to splutterfish.com and then entering all your info to access the main download forums.
