Hi,

I started modeling a female head a few days ago for which I used front and side views of Jessica Alba (the aim was not to model a "perfect" resemblance, though).

This is how far I got with it:

Perspective (http://mitglied.lycos.de/alexskully/persp.jpg)

Side (http://mitglied.lycos.de/alexskully/side.jpg)

Suggestions are very welcome :wavey:

The cheek area is way too wide and the top of the head seems to be too small. (Although it may just be the large cheek that makes the head look pointed) The cheek bone is rarely wider than the jawbone unless you are going for a comic-book look. I also think the corner of the mouth is set in just a tiny bit too much. Its a good start though, narrowing the cheekbones will do wonders for ya by itself. :)

BTW, those look like decent ref pics, where did you find them?

dude you should really try too use your refrence accurtely, you have the top of her head modeled up too the hair,if you were too model in the hair it would'nt match your ref. her cheek is way too bubbley, if you look at the pic she has a strong angular face, try too stay true too your ref and you'll be ok

dude looks like you stretched her head up high and the rest on the side is starting to melt to the left of her body.
that or this is what she would look like if she was beaten with a baseball bat and 100 pounds overweight.

Thank you all very much for your comments!
I got back to the model today and I started to tweak it like you said:

I'm not quite sure about the back of the head: I think it looks a little distorted, but I guess the hair needs something to collide with

Is it possible that you could mirror the side you have done so that we could see a whole head? That way our input might be more grounded and valuable to you. All I know is LW so I cannot guarantee my suggestion would be simple.

I'm a little confused, are you trying to make a jessica alba head or are you just using her pic for reference in general?

The space between her bottom lip and her chin in the side view is incorrect. Try slimming it down, and giving more breathing room. Remember, there is a skull under that skin and on a person as skinny as J. Alba, there are a lot of places where it pushes thru so to speak.

Also, her neck goes back too far. Reign it in some. Check out this pic of angelina jolie,

- see how thin her neck is? That is part of traditional female beauty, finding that balance.

Her hair is really thick (read; has lotsa product in it) so it doesn't need all that neck to stick out that far, it just does it.

Question, why all the extra polys in the back? Seems they aren't doing anything at the moment, so I suggest you eliminate them.

This was intended to help you skip some of the tedious anatomy research I had to go through. (read; Research research research!)

Thank you, the reference pic is very usefull!

I'm not aiming for a perfect copy of Jessica Alba, it's just that I found old promotion pictures for the show and used them as reference.

Here's a first mirrored version (I just used a wrap deformer, so the seam is awful at the moment...):
