View Full Version : Environment: Residential House
teewsandy 04-21-2003, 05:02 PM You ever work diligently on something and then become biased that you can't see whats wrong but you know there are things to fix...hehe...where that's where I'm at. This is my first post to cgtalk but its always nice to get feedback from a wider community to grow. A little explanation this is a simple residential house. Modeling took a day and texturing, lighting took 2 days. (Done in Maya) For some reason I never tackled exterior. I was scared :hmm:
But I have to get over it
Thanks.

What a beautiful house! :)
Materials and lightings could be better to make it look more realistic though...
Keep up good works!

Thx.
The lighting workflow on the exterior was a hassle. I tried so many ways. On this one I started with GI lighting just to give it some shape and little shadow definition. Then I added an ambient to fill more, and lastly a directional light to simulate the direction where the sun will hit along with shadows.
Pretty wacky huh? Hehe.

Hi there, nice to see an architectural work here.
Well i think it does need some work, maybe i could help a litle:
1: the textures are a bit confusing, the bricks in the walls and the roof even more, so you get the borders (corners) a bit lost.
You should try with a composite material, blending a darker version of the top one with a drawned mask, so you can get your corner more dark, and so they would outstand more.
You should try to anlarge your brik material in photoshop, by coping and placing in diferent positions, that way you could disimulate more your tiling material.
2:the roof material is realy confusing, i think you should look for other and do the same i said before.
3: abaut the light i think it lucks of variation, try to get your entrance more shadowed. Its nice what you did with the tree shadow, you could cover more of the house with it and it would help.
I atached a sample of my own where you can see what i mean with the mask thing in the dark areas of the roof.
Hope i coul help. And hope i coul explain myself (in english)
The cuality is poor since i had to attach-it:thumbsup:
