RobertoOrtiz 04-21-2003, 03:16 PM From the article:
"A technique developed by Microsoft has given unique access to the world of the Old Masters, allowing people to virtually explore every aspect of a painting such as The Flagellation of Christ by Renaissance master Piero della Francesca. "

Bleah... techies are just reinventing existing art.
You can't know what went into a painting until you can see the glazes and washes and smudged fingerprints in the paint with and without the glare, straight-on or edge-on to show you the technique, minor flaws, and mastery of their medium.
Sitting behind a monitor is not a substitute for being there, no matter what algorithms are used.
To tell yourself that this is the next best thing to being there, or that it enhances the experience is like telling yourself that ecstacy makes the concert. (Well, drugs explain the popularity of Phish, but not Vivaldi - and we are talking the Masters, not the hacks.)
