Hello
i wanted to ask how do you people move your characters when you make your cycles.
do u make your character cycle in the same place, and then move him with a master node that moves the whole body?
or do you move your character while you are doing your cycle, with the pelvis and the legs' helpers seperatly?
or do you use any other way?

the first approach with the master nose is a bit problematic because when i move my character he tend to slide
the second approach is becoming very problematic when i want to move my character to the left or right since the parent of the pelvis and the legs wich move the cycle forward is the world axis.

I hope i make sense
if not, i can try to post pics for better explanation

Hey there

Here's what I do to make, say, a run cycle...

Establish a speed for the run (I tend to use 8m/s for a fastish run). Now at 1 second move the 'top parent' for the whole character setup 8 m (or units) forward and make a keyframe. The whole character should now be sliding forward in it's default pose. You can now animate the run cycle to match this speed, tracking the feet when they are on the ground so they don't slide. You only need to animate 1 cycle, not the whole 1 second of movement from the parent. Once you're happy with your cycle simply delete the keyframe of the top parent and your character will be running on the spot. To animate the character running along simply keyframe the top parent the equivalent distance the character will run for that time eg. running for 3 seconds set the keyframe at 3x8= 24m. and then copy/paste/repeat/etc your cycle. Everything should be hunky dorey now :-)

Hope this helps

doh!...sorry, yeah, it's for meters. I have a Lightwave background and it deals in real units :)
