Wow, it certainly looks legit. Still, it could be a concept that wasn't final.

It's a piece of fan art.

yeah, it's fanart. It's not the actual cloverflield monster. But it is a totally badass design, I hope the actual monster looks as good.

lol I might actually see this movie if the monster really is a giant humpback whale mutant come to seek revenge for all the years of whaling. Hey it gives it more of a motive than just wanting to destroy NY for no reason...again.

Why is it always New York. the city is not all that bad, really.

It is one of the ,if not ,most recognizeable city in the world. Or it could be that "New York ,New York " is a very catchy song.

Maybe J.J.Abrams is doing a film-adaptation tie-in with Marvel Comics: All the bad guys in the Marvel Universe are contractually obligated to only attack NYC because that's where all the superhero teams are based out of. :)

looks like a poor distant cousin to godzilla..why would a whale walk..ie need legs?
maybe they couldn't get the go ahead for godzilla II and used this instead?

btw if it turns out to be godzilla II instead that would be great!

I'm still hoping for Cuthulu, if only so I can use the word more often without being random, it's just fun to say. That said, I like the idea of a giant whale, but I don't like the idea of giant lice, or legs on slaid whale, tentacles- maybe, some leg-fin hybrid thing- not so bad, but full legs....

It's Cthulhu, by the way.

It's Cthulhu, by the way

how do you actually pronounce that?

like the concept but i guess it`s all a bit academic really, there have been more of the 'nature gets back at humans' movies lately, there was 'The Host wasn`t there, which i liked by the way, and if Cloverfield is as good as that then we are in for a treat.....

We haven't had a decent alien movie for a while now. I know, Transformers... but it's hard to think of robots as aliens. So bring it on!!

kris

The most commonly heard pronunciation is that suggested by Chaosium, makers of the "Call of Cthulhu" roleplaying game. On the back of many of their gaming products is printed the phrase, "Can you say kuh-THOOL-hoo?". (I pronounce it kuh-THOO-lhoo.)

Another pronunciation is that used by several Lovecraftian scholars. This form is based on Lovecraft's revision tales where Cthulhu is often referred to as "Clooloo" or "Clulu". Unfortunately, this form does not have a sound representing the "th" combination.

Lastly there is a compromise between these two. The "h" sounds are aspirated, thus the "th" is not as in "them" or "thin", but two separate sounds. The first four letters of the word are run together in something like a sneezing sound, "K't'hoo-lhoo".

My version is
"keth-u-lu"
Though the sneezing sound version is also fun to say, but hard to actually use in an active conversation. Can anyone tell me how dark "The Host" is, as I'm not really a horror fan, but I hear it's quite interesting

IMO The Host is well worth watching, really. One of the better creature flicks I've seen in a good long while. Refreshing and surprising. Not one that's going to make the Classic Cinema's history books, but it can teach Hollywood a thing or two in the ideas department.

Not too dark at all, really. Good fun and exciting. But it is about a monster. Not a fuzzy bunny. After all.

The movie (The host) is awfull, but the VFX are quite cool and shots are interesting, you can just watch the scenes with VFX and be happy (the actors are horrible and the script is stupid). For the first half of the movie I was blown away for the way they show their vision of a monster-movie, special and refreshing, but movie gets worse and worse from the middle to the end.

I think The Host was pretty good, it's just the fat guy was a bit retarded like the 2nd boy in Narnia and there are some parts in the story that shows lack of research, stretching the credibility. I love the direction they took with the little girl though, it keeps you guessing throughout the movie.

The Host was great, nice and refreshing. It's more based around the family and the effect the monster has on them really. First saw it when it was released in Korea, without subtitles...now that's the way to watch it.

The characters are pretty real, very similar actual people I've come across. There are some fathers that are really like this guy. The story is based off an incident when the US Military actually did dump chemicals in the Han River. Somewhat like Godzilla.

There is no accounting for taste. This was a great movie FX and story wise. Everyone I showed it to loved it.

It was a break from American movies where beautiful people run from the monster. It was pretty standard, normal everyday people dealing with the monster.

If only US movies took their queue from Asian films.

If only US movies took their queue from Asian films.

When they do, it's usually to make the same movie, but make it worse. ;)

The host really was a refreshing take. It also gave insights into the Korean culture that I was not familiar with, like some of their views of their own government and the presence of US forces.

The FX were down right awesome. From what I heard of the budget, they had no business looking that damn good! Somebody stayed up late working on that slimy beast.

I bought The Host on DVD and the extras were great. Showed all the effects scenes step by step by basically showing the different passes.

I also enkoyed the movie. Had a little of everything and a somewhat surprise ending (at least one I wasn't used to).

The effects were done by The Orphanage, so bydget or not, they had a top notch team. The DVD also showed how they worked with the Korean team. Really good stuff...

Back to Cloverfield: It scares me when a movie is built up this much. It will have to be REALLY good, or at least different than any other movie of it's type.
